The Inspiration for the Brown Sugar Citrus Scrub:
So I mixed up a batch of this brown sugar citrus scrub after my doctor advised me to buy one to gently exfoliate the eczema on my legs. I decided to go with brown sugar because I have a lot of half used bags. Am I the only one who ends up throwing away brown sugar annually because I haven’t used it up before it harders? I did a quick google search on top sugar scrubs and found Fresh Body Polish for $39.00 for 7oz. Not in my budget. So I embarked on a DIY version of my own.
I originally made a small batch with brown sugar, coconut oil, and orange zest and went through it SUPER fast. This time I decided to experiment with lemon zest (because I have a FULL lemon tree) and a 50/50 mix of coconut oil and olive oil (since coconut oil is solid at room temperature, olive oil stays liquid and makes the scrub easier to scoop). I love this combo!
Tips & Tricks:
- I keep a small wooden mixing stick (aka popsicle stick) in the jar to use as a scoop
- I keep my jar in the shower since the temperature warms up the oil, making it easier to scoop out
- I thoroughly wash the scrub off my body in the shower but try to pat dry with a towel in order to keep some of the oil on my skin as a moisturizer
- I always rinse the floor clean/spray shower cleaner in order to avoid any slippery residue. My favorite is Method Daily Shower Spray in Eucalyptus Mint. Works like a charm.
