I truly believe that a penny saved is a penny earned. I am
hoping needing to “earn” a few extra pennies this holiday season.
Here are a few ways I hope to save money this holiday season:
1. I stopped highlighting my hair
I know this isn’t an option for everyone, but I would strongly consider it if it is. It has actually been 6 months since I quit coloring my hair. It started as a little personal social experiment and decided I didn’t hate my natural color. Side note: I worked with my lovely hairdresser and she helped me transition out so I don’t have harsh root lines or anything heinous.
2. I froze [one of] my gym membership(s)
We are going to be out of town for multiple weeks over the next few months and my husband and I haven’t been going to the gym THAT frequently…at least not enough to justify spending around $60 per month on a gym. And we live in Arizona and the weather is so nice. I kept my Orange Theory Fitness membership because, well, I am INTO it. Maybe you have a few subscriptions you can live without over the holidays? I think Sirius is next on the chopping block for me…
3. My hubby and I decided to forgo FORMAL Christmas gifts for each other
Instead, we are going to save our money for our upcoming vacation to JAMAICA. Money. Well. Saved. I’d rather be able to relax with a pina colada in my hand IN 4 months than worry about funds for our trip FOR 4 months.
4. I downloaded Ibotta
I know I am late to the game on this one. If you’ve been living under a rock like me (hey neighbor), Ibotta is an app with coupons for multiple locations that can be redeemed for cash. It is a little tedious- you unlock the deal, you purchase the product, you scan the barcode, and take a photo of your receipt. They also have deals where you just photograph your retail receipt. For example: I spent a pretty penny at At Home the other day and qualified for $5 cash back [I also got 10% cash back with my Bank of America card]. If you are a developer for Ibotta, call me- I have suggestions. But, there are some great holiday deals going on right now. If you sign up with my referral link you get $10 and I get $5!
5. I upped my survey income
I had taken a foolish hiatus from my survey addiction when I switched phones (hey iPhone world). But, I have since resumed and plan to cash in my earnings for gift cards (normally reserved for airline miles) that can be used to purchase gifts for others. Read my post about survey $$$ here.
